Banking – Week of April 20 in Review

Developments over the past week on the nomination of Kevin Warsh as chairman of the Federal Reserve received the most public attention and may have the longest lasting impact of any events over the last several days.  As of the writing, his confirmation seems assured.  In addition to the politics surrounding the nomination, Warsh made some important comments on monetary policy in his confirmation hearing.   Elsewhere, in final agency action, the banking agencies finalized revisions to the community bank leverage ratio, and the CFPB finalized substantive changes to Regulation B. The OCC also issued an interim rule and an interim order to confirm that federal preemption exempted national banks from Illinois limits on noninterest charges and fees.
